Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight “Navy Blue” (Ref. 79030B) – History
Origins & Heritage
The Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight line draws its name and inspiration from the year 1958, when Tudor released its first diver’s watch rated for 200 meters of water resistance — the legendary Reference 7924 “Big Crown.” The Fifty-Eight series pays tribute to that pioneering model, recapturing its vintage proportions, domed crystal, and classic dive-watch simplicity.
The “Navy Blue” edition, reference 79030B, continues Tudor’s long-standing association with blue dive watches, a tradition that dates back to the 1970s when the brand produced blue Submariners for the French Navy (Marine Nationale).
Launch & Development
The Black Bay Fifty-Eight collection debuted in 2018 with the reference 79030N, which featured a black dial and gilt accents. It was celebrated for returning to a 39mm case size, echoing vintage dive watch dimensions and improving wearability.
In 2020, Tudor introduced the 79030B “Navy Blue”, expanding the Fifty-Eight family with a refreshing new colorway. The deep blue bezel and dial gave the watch a sportier, more contemporary character while retaining the charm of the vintage-inspired design.
