• 1904: The Cartier Santos was created when Louis Cartier designed a wristwatch for his friend, Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont. Santos-Dumont needed a practical way to tell time while piloting, as pocket watches were inconvenient during flight.
